barrie, you may choose to try to find some micsniule spot of crime haven in malaysia. but then taking up your point would digress from the thrus of alvin's original comment. alvin is saying that rampant crime is a small price to pay for his personal happiness. "freedom is crucial for happiness. period." PERIOD??!! nay! there must be a condition attached to that wide sweeping statement. happiness requires freedom, yes but NOT the freedom to commit crimes. i don't feel any happier if i have the freedom to speed or to litter or to spit. there's no problem if speeding, littering and spitting affects only you. but your speeding, littering and spitting affects others. so alvin is saying he doesn't give a shitz how others feel about his speeding, littering and spitting as long as doing it makes him happy? that's plain selfishness. would alvin still be 'happy' if someone practises his freedom by clubbing to death his entire family in the course of committing a crime? i'm sure his family's death would be a small price to pay for him to indulge in his personal happiness to speed, litter and spit. alvin's claim is that "the ONLY reason that Malaysians would choose to work and live in Singapore is the higher wages..." so, barrie, no matter what you say about counting the number of malaysians becoming citizens, there are definitely more than enough of them to rebut alvin's original point. as far as i know the only malaysians who return from singapore are those without the proper educational qualifications for the uppity singapore government to grant them permanent residency or citizenship. i know singapore is not paradise. beneath it's veneer of economic success, it can be a bit of hell hole. you know, as a malaysian, what is the worst thing about singapore? it's singaporeans. they are a bunch of arrongant snobbish mediocre bunch who actually think they are damn good. they only got so far because they are damn good at following orders. but if one fine day they get some stupid leaders governing the country i think they are going to end up like a bunch of ants running aimlessly out of a flooded anthill. for malaysia, the entire government has already been run by a bunch of corrupt incompetent nincompops for decades. the only reason it's still surviving is because there are enough petrodollars to 'patch' up the corruption and incompetencies.. so far. but don't paint malaysia like some goddamn paradise just because you want to run down singapore. after the end of south african apartheid, i can't think of any country which practises institutionalised racism like malaysia. in singapore, racims exists no doubt, but officially there is no discrimination based on race. in malaysia, racism is celebrated and is part of the very constitution of the country. the government's policy is to be as racist as possible without pissing the minority too much. the truth is the chinese want very much to get out of the country. singapore is not the most favoured option. western countries like america, britain and australia is. even singaporeans want to migrate there themselves. but singapore is still a very viable option for malaysian chinese who are sick of the discrimination. let me flip the issue around then. how many singaporean chinese are there who wished they were malaysian citizens?
